Colored Pencils on Sheer Heaven
Smooth as velvet and vibrant like watercolor, the surface tooth and translucency of Sheer Heaven make a whole new medium out of colored pencils.

We used wax based Prismacolor colored pencils for our samples, but water soluble pencils will work just as well. In fact, since Sheer Heaven is impervious to moisture, you can use as wet a brush as you wish to blend watercolor pencils and you will not have to deal with wrinkling or warping.

One of our favorite tricks using the waxed based pencils is to add a flat color backgound after the illustration is colored in by dying the piece of Sheer Heaven in an acrylic wash. See the flower sample below. The colored pencil resists the dye and is not affected by its color.

At Gallery Different, we often print out some of our designs and hand color them to enhance the value of the print - making it more of an “original”. We have been frustrated for years because any wet media smears the inkjet ink and we were never able to get the vibrancy of color we were looking for with colored pencils - at least not without a lot of time invested in building up layers of color. Sheer Heaven has solved that problem and we have replaced much of our watercolor work with colored pencil. In fact, the drawings of the shops in Dot Calm Village are all done by that method.
