Dog Love Lamp
Make the shade by following Luminaria Shade Folding Instructions, using a nice cover stock. We used 90lb watercolor paper, but Strathmore 80lb drawing paper works just as well. Note: You must buy a whole sheet of watercolor paper or a large drawing pad to get the width you need for your shade (at least 17" in one direction). Trim the top edge of your lamp shade with deckle edge scissors (optional). Stamp a dog and bones and hearts around the three front sides of the lampshade. Shade and enhance the stamped images with markers and/or colored pencils. Hand letter or use alphabet stamps in conjunction with the heart stamp to express the messages of love. Use the heart punch randomly around the bottom area of the lampshade. These heart shaped holes will cast heart- shaped spotlights on the table top around the lamp when it is lit.Assemble your lamp according to directions. Light your lamp and enjoy your artwork. Show it to your dog! |

| Follow the Luminaria Shade Folding Instructions.
Use the deckle-edged scissors to trim the top of your lampshade. In a well-ventilated area, lightly spray the shade with a little black and a little copper spray paint (we used Krylon). Hold the can more than a foot away from the shade so you get a light dusting of paint with no big drops. Set aside to dry. Cut two 3" x 5" rectangles from the black moonrock paper. Rub the front side (rougher surface) of the paper with metallic rub-ons in copper and gold. Using the copper metallic marker, color all four edges of each rectangle. On the back side of one rectangle, using a gel pen (so you can see it), draw a grass shape (as shown in the sample picture). Carefully cut it out using the exacto knife and cutting surface. Flip the cut-out grass over and use it as a template to trace the grass shape onto the other rectangle. The idea is to have the two grass shapes be reflections of each other when their metallic side is up. Grass Lamp cont: Cut three pieces of Mizihuki cord: 3.25", 3.5", and 4" long. Using a tiny bit of adhesive, glue a bead to each end of each cord. You can make the medallion ornament right on your lamp shade but it is neater and safer to make it separately and then glue it on. Make a circular blob of hot glue on a surface you will be able to remove it from (a glue mat or piece of glass). Wet a small design stamp of your choice with water and press it into the cooling glue. Wait until the glue is set before removing the stamp. You may have to practice this a couple of times until you get a medallion shape that pleases you. If it gets messed up, reheat the glue blob with a heat gun and re-stamp. When the glue medallion is completely cooled, paint it with a flat black acrylic paint (like Patio Paint by Decoart). When dry, apply copper rub-on and highlight with gold rub-on. Arrange the three cords above the rectangle on the front of the shade and attach with a small bit of hot glue. Apply hot glue to the back of your medallion and glue it over the cords in the center. Bend the cords into an interesting arc shape. Flatten the folds of your lamp with a brayer or bone folder and attach the folded tab to the inside of the back panel using double stick tape or other paper adhesive. Light your lamp and bask in the glow of your own creativity. |

Friends Sticker Lamp
You can even make beautiful lamps doing no artwork at all (like when you need a gift in a hurry). This luminaria is made with our Luminaria Kit and translucent stickers from Me and My Big Ideas (available at most scrapbook stores). They offer lots of themed sticker sheets featuring childrens activities - which allow you to make wonderful night lights for kids that focus on their favorite hobbies like soccer, dancing, etc. Other sticker companies are beginning to come out with translucent stickers on other themes, so the possibilities for this easy trick are broadening. Also, dont forget that you can make your own translucent stickers by running Sheer Heaven through your inkjet printer and then through a Xyron machine for the adhesive. A childs photo could even be put on a lamp in this fashion! What a great nightlight that would be! |
