Decorative Papers to Dye For . . .
The samples shown on this page were all created using Jacquard liquid Silk Colors and disposable styrofoam dinner plates. Remember to use the right (rough) side of Sheer Heaven for all these procedures.

Use pipettes (plastic drinking straws cut into 4" lengths) or an eye dropper to drop spots of different colors onto the flat surface of the plate - Yellow and Chocolate Brown in the first three examples. Spread the inks around with a dry paintbrush, being careful not to mix them into just one color. Then press the Sheer Heaven face down into the color and rub over the back with your fingers to get rid of air bubbles. (Use disposable vinyl gloves if you don’t want really colorful fingers!)

Pick the Sheer Heaven straight up from the dye and flip it on its back on a folded paper towel. Sample #2 was just left to dry. We added a couple drops of yellow directly on the surface of Sample #1 while it was still very wet, and some grains of rock salt to Sample #3.

We expected the starbursts from the rock salt but were surprised by all the other patterns that occurred on our swatches. The interaction with whatever coating is on the surface of a styrofoam plate seems to cause these patterns to develop. Remember that we are dealing with interactive media here. Your efforts will produce similar, but not identical results.

Yellow and Carmine Red were used to create the Sunset piece (Sample #4) and Viridian Green and Sapphire Blue for Sample #5. Jacquard offers a great mixing chart with their Silk Colors which provides infinite additional color possibilites.
