An exciting new printable, indestructible, waterproof vinyl. . .

White Magic is indestructible like Sheer Heaven. You cannot tear it and it will not buckle, but you can cut it and punch it and sew it and inkjet print it. It is the weight of a light cover stock but much more flexible.

White Magic is an opaque white vinyl sheet with a very fine coating on one side which prints like the finest matte photo papers, but the difference is that the inkjet ink is rendered waterproof by the coating. So, the result is a print that is impervious to moisture and tearproof as well. The backside is slick - great for paste paper techniques using acrylic paint and glaze medium and for other more wild techniques that need a non-warping, non-porous surface.

This Garden Pinwheel was made by printing a floral photograph from our Art Safe CDs onto White Magic and cutting it to match a template. The back side was painted yellow and the pinwheel was assembled and put in the garden to spin, where rain or sprinklers can’t hurt it. Complete instructions and template are here.
Magic Matte differs from our Canvas and White Magic is one major way. The basis of Magic Matte is Paper, not canvas or vinyl. So, the substrate is not waterproof, but the coating is the same coating that will render all injet ink waterproof.

The luxurious, velvety surface produces the richest inkjet print we’ve seen (similar to an Enhanced Matte inkjet paper), and the other unique thing is that this inkjet coating does not crack when the paper is scored and folded.

We now have three weights of Magic Matte, so there is one that’s perfect for any project.
We don’t know of any other premium inkjet surface that you can crease and fold (even with a bone folder) without causing the coating to crack and let the white paper show through. We also don’t know of one that is light enough for origami folds and water-resistant too!

Our W-R Matte Lite is a 27lb sheet (similar to copy paper weight) that prints a beautifully detailed inkjet photo and can be folded into the most intricate shapes without cracking even when bone folder burnished. It can also take the handling which many folded paper projects must endure. Origami artists can now print their own decorative papers. Handmade book artists can print paper for covers that will fold neatly at the corners.

Please Note: If you should experience any buckling or bronzing of dark areas when printing heavy coverage, change the setting to a premium gloss paper to lighten the ink load - or just give the paper sufficient time to dry and it will flatten out and lose the bronzing.

It is the perfect weight for collage - thin enough to blend into its surroundings and won’t bleed when brushed over with acrylic matte.

Great for adding printed photos to journals or albums too, because not much thickness is built up.

Will not buckle in collage if you follow this tip: Paint a thin coating of acrylic medium on the back side - or on the collage surface where the piece will go. Burnish the piece into place and allow to dry. You can then overcoat the with no worry of warping or buckling or the ink smearing.
