High Desert PolyGlaze White Wash

Since we introduced High Desert PolyGlazes in 2001, we have been asked for a clear or white color that could be tinted with brighter hues.

Clear is impossible because two of our many ingredients are clay and marble dust, which are not clear, but we have managed to create a white wash that can also serve as a base for tinting with more brilliant colors (see Color Note below).

We have kept the white pigment load light for the sake of tinting, but two coats, allowed to dry in between, will create a very nice aged patina on terra cotta and other darker clays.

Applied after baking like our colored Glazes above.

Color Tinting Notes:
To preserve the waterproof nature of the finish when dry, you must use very small amounts of Golden Fluid Acrylic or acrylic inks to tint the White Wash. Craft and tube acrylics cannot be used because they destroy the flow and viscosity of the Glaze.

Watersoluble, transparent inks and dyes can be used, but the piece will need to be sealed with a commercial (non-waterbased) polymer varnish (glaze) to prevent the color from smearing with moisture.
