Flowers aren't the only thing that can go into - or onto a glass vase.

Most times, when we think of painting glass, we think of the floral designs which we often see because they are so easy to paint, or the faux stained glass look that has become so popular.

But, stepping just a little outside the box with glass painting media, it is easy to devise some very elegant looks without too much effort.

I have long been a fan of the ceramic and glass paints and mediums made by Pebéo (Vitrea for Glass and Porcelain for ceramic) because of their variety, their 24 hour curing time - and the fact that they can be made dishwasher safe with low-temperature baking in the kitchen oven. You can also switch and use the Vitrea on ceramic and the Porcelain on glass - which we have done here.

With the few supplies listed here, we turned some plain glass cylinders into “vases” for candles (although they can certainly be used for flowers as well).

Floating candles shed a lovely light in these handpainted “Candle Vases”.
To do this project, you will need:
Glass Cylinders
These are inexpensive “florist’s vases” which can be found in most large hobby stores in the dried floral area. Our samples are about 11" in height and approximately 3.5" in diameter.
Paint & Tools:
Vitrea Glass Paint, Matte Medium
Porcelain Ceramic Paint, Gold
Porcelain Cloisonné Outliner, Vermeil
Make-Up Sponges
Disposable Styrofoam Plate
Artist’s Tape or Masking Tape, 1/2" and 1/4"
Embellishments
Simple symbols can be hand drawn on the glass or traced from rubber stamp designs. We used a rubber stamp design from Our Lady of Rubber and hand drew the rest.
