| The history of modern art is full of movements - each of which marked a new direction in creative exploration and artistic expression: the Cubist Movement, the Impressionist Movement, the Abstract Expressionist Movement, to name just a few. All of these came about because artists broke away from the commonly accepted norm of their time to explore new ground, new media, and new approaches to old media.
Traditionally, technical training preceded the exploration of one's own creativity. Aspiring artists copied the Old Masters until perfecting techniques, and then were free to be creative (supposedly), and some were brave enough to throw open doors and discover new techniques. Usually, they were soundly trounced for doing so. Today, we have an entirely different story. For many reasons (the wonderful information sharing of the internet, the birth and growth of the rubber stamping industry, the incredible array of new and improved art supplies), budding artists are now discovering their creativity first, and thirsting for the techniques to realize their visions. The bars are down, the fences are broken, and anything goes. Purists attitudes have fallen by the wayside and what if? is the battle cry. My goal with this publication is to celebrate and support this newest movement in the history of art: exploring new creative directions, products, and techniques, reviving some of the tried and true knowledge from the past, sharing the joys of pure creativity, and hopefully providing some food for thought. Now What? will be a true e-zine in that it will only be published in the virtual world of the internet - hopefully monthly - and it is free. For that reason, each issue will not be huge, but we promise that each will be interesting. Hopefully, we will have a little something for everyone. This publication is free - but we would still like you to subscribe! Why? Eventually, we would like to offset our costs by including some quality advertising. When companies buy advertising, they want to know how many readers will see it - makes sense, right? So we would like to be able to know how many readers we have. To subscribe, just hit and send the email link at the end of this paragraph. If you would like to add comments, feel free to do so. We will eventually have a Letters page - as soon as we have any. Your email address will not be used for any reason but to count you among our subscribers, and will not be shared with anyone. Let us know you are here! Jessica |
