We are always on the lookout for new and unusual rubber stamp designs, because they lead to new directions in our art. When we find them, we intend to share them with you, and let you know where to find them too. This first issue of our zine coincides with the introduction of a brand new design line of our own - and we thought this would be an excellent time to tell you about it.

Blanket Animals were inspired by a lady and her dog in Santa Fe. She makes dog clothes out of Pendleton blankets and sells them in a boutique for animals that she founded with her dog, Teca Tu. Teca Tu was tiny and when he was wearing his Pendleton blanket coat, only his head and rear stuck out. Once I started thinking about that, I couldn't wait to try those “blankets” on other animals as well. The following series emerged from that experimentation.

See the directions below for a way that you can replace each animal’s blanket with one of your own design. Here are the eight animals currently in the series, and here is a link to where you can find them on our website. They are shown actual size.

If You Want To Create Your Own “Blanket” Design Instead . . .
Use the small end of a make-up sponge or a paint brush to apply ink to all of the image except for the blanket area and stamp. (Figure 1)

We like to use Memories black dye ink because it won’t smear when we are painting in the color later.

Then, use a permanent Sharpie marker with a fine tip to draw the connecting lines at the top and bottom of the animal’s body (Figure 2).

At this point, you have a blank “blanket” canvas. If you are feeling creative, draw your own design with the Sharpie, or, with careful masking, you can use a pattern stamp to fill in the area.

Then, fill it all in with great color.
