Hidden Messages, con’t

Another interesting look is shown at the right. The polymer clay tiles are mounted on an oblong ceramic tile (from the home improvement store). A hanger was affixed to the back with E6000 adhesive which we have found to be the best for sticking things to ceramic.

The Dove Gray glaze color was mixed according to the following formula:

Mix equal parts Blue Corn Mist and Chamisa Sage (High Desert Polyglaze). Add a couple drops of Adobe Dust PolyGlaze and stir. Add more drops and stir until you get this nice cool gray.

Other things to try:
Cards with tiny tiles on the front, tiles as embellishments on boxes, bottles, or journal/book covers.

Stamp Your Art Out

This stamper’s message is done with Chamisa Sage PolyGlaze as it comes from the bottle. We were able to find a great teal green mat and coordinating cover stock, to create a nice contrast to the light tiles.

These are regular 8"x10" mats which we built into “shadow mats” using the procedure explained below.

8" x 10" is a standard, ready made frame size but you will have to find a frame with enough depth to accomodate the thickness of this mat to frame the piece.

Shadow Mats:
Cut several strips from scrap cardboard - 1" wide by just short of 10" long. Stack 3 or 4 strips (depending on the thickness of your cardboard) to equal approximatly 1/4 inch thickness - and hot glue them together. Make two of these stacks and glue them to the mat back - one at either long edge (left and right). Then, cut cardboard strips 1" wide by 5.5" and make two more stacks the same thickness as the previous ones. Glue these at the top and bottom of the mat back - they should fit between the stacks already there.

Attach an 8"x10" piece of color coordinated cover stock to the backboard of the mat with double-stick tape. If your mat did not come with a backboard, you will need to make one by cutting an 8"x10" piece of mounting board or mat board.

Attach the mat to the backboard with hot glue, and your shadow mat is ready to receive your letter tiles.
