The snowflake is a great symbol for winter in most of the world, and we like to use it on candles for the interesting contrast of cold and warmth.

This Snowflake Candle Sleeve is done a little differently than the Petroglyph Deer, but uses the same dimensions and materials with the following exceptions:

The addition of Gold Embossing Powder

Colors used are Arte Colores, a close relative of Silk Colors but with a touch more body. Either of these dyes can be used to make either of our Candle Sleeve designs.

The Snowflake Stamp is from CC Rubber. Obviously, any stamp can be used.

Step 1. Use a half sheet of Sheer Heaven (4.25"x11"). Clear Emboss the snowflake in the center of the Sheer Heaven.

Step 2. Wet the sheet thoroughly and lay it right side up on the styrofoam tray. Drop Arte Colores straight from the bottle onto the Sheer Heaven, helping it to spread with a big soft paintbrush. We used True Red and Yellow. Let the colors run and blend until you are happy. Let sit for a minute or so and then rinse under running water. Lay on a paper towel to dry.

Step 3. As in the Petroglyph Deer Candle Shade, the clear embossed image will resist the dye color, creating a clear window for the candlelight to show through, and the red background will glow beautifully.

But you can easily add yet another dimension of “light” by embossing the snowflake twice more with gold embossing powder. This will give a metallic sparkle to the outside of the candle which looks great against the glow from within.

Step 4. Attach with a strip of double stick tape and place around a contained candle with the tape seam at the back.

Snowflakes also look stunning against a blue background, and of course, you can make endless varities of Candle Sleeves for all seasons by choosing other stamp and color combinations. A particularly pretty sleeve can be done with clear embossed fern leaves against a deep forest green background.
