What You Need:
Your completed Shaman head
Sticks (14" long)
Garden Clippers
Hot Melt Glue and Gun
A Fun Foam hanger (See Below)
Paper “Bodies” (See Below)
Decorative Breastplate
Fun Foam Hangers: Easy, inexpensive hangers for all lightweight art can be made from Fun Foam, Cut a 3/4" x 2" rectangle and punch a hole in one end. That’s all. Attach to most surfaces with hot glue.

Breastplate:
You will want to prepare a decorative breastplate for the front of your Shaman. Since we are making a “Star” Shaman, that theme is appropriate, but you can use any design stamp you wish.

Cut a 3/4" x 2" piece of card stock which cooordinates with the color of the paper you will use as a body. Stamp and emboss the design in a gold or copper metallic EP. Mount the piece on one or more pieces of card stock that also go with the color scheme. Put the piece aside for later.

Body Papers:
You need a 5.5" square of a soft, heavyweight, yet pliable paper that will fold without scoring and not crack or break. The best thing we have found is Moonrock paper which acts very much like a thick fabric. We love it for many things but it is hard to find, because most folks don’t know its potential. They figure its lava-like surface (or “cottage cheese” reverse) isn’t much good for stamping or painting, so they don’t think of it. So many dealers who previously carried it have let it go out of stock. For this reason, we offer sheets sized for our projects at Cre8it. You will find sheets intended for this project on our Doll Kit Page.

We used purple and green, sponged with a gold acrylic craft paint, on the many Shamans we made for the gallery, but we found that they must be kept away from direct light. The dyes used in these papers are very fugitive - which means they fade easily. So our preference is to use the white Moonrock and paint or dye it ourselves. Our doll kit ships with white, but you can request one of the other two colors if you wish.

To color the white Moonrock without making it too stiff, thoroughly wet the piece under the faucet and lay it on a waterproof surface (freezer paper or styrofoam plate). Then “feed” liquid color onto it and let it flow until you are happy with the saturation. You can mix several colors if you wish.

Step 1. Fold and crease a little less than one third of the body paper toward the center. Make sure the “good” side is facing out. Step 2. Fold and crease the other side to overlap the first by approximately 1/2". Step 3. Unfold and run a bead of hot glue along the first fold.
Step 4. Place the first stick into the glue bead so about half is above and half below the paper. Press into the glue and allow to set. Step 5. Put a bead of glue along the front side of the craft stick attached to the Shaman’s head. Flip it and glue it in place in the center of the middle section of the body. Step 6. Repeat Step 4 to place the second stick in the other fold of the body.
Step 7. Run a bead of hot glue along the craft stick and fold down the first side of the paper. Then run a bead along that edge and glue down the final side. Step 8. Attach the Fun Foam hanger to the back using hot glue. Step 9. Using a garden clippers, trim the tops and bottoms of the sticks to matching lengths. An angled cut gives a cleaner look.
Step 10. Tear a piece of Moonrock paper just bigger than the Breastplate on all sides. If you like the way this looks, hot glue the layers into place. Step 11. Or, if you want a more glitzy look, paint the piece of Moonrock with Lumiere or other metallic paint. Step 12. When the piece is dry, mount it on the front of your Shaman, using hot glue. Then, mount the breastplate on top of it.
More Glitz!
Shamans we made for the galleries got a final, all over spritz from a can of Glitter Spray by Krylon (Glistening Gold). It gave an ethereal sparkle to everything - especially the feathers, and when the Shaman was handled, some “star dust” would come off into the air. Probably not ideal for breathing but it makes a great effect.
