What you need:

Round Nose Pliers

22 Gauge Copper Wire, 2" piece

16 Gauge Copper Wire, 6" piece

Some type of Star charm or bead. Ours is made of stone.

Step 1. To make the star necklace, first use the round nose pliers to make a small loop in one end of the 16g wire. Step 2. Wrap the looped end around your index finger as shown. This will be the loop that goes around the Shaman’s neck. Step 3. Make a loop in the other end - going in the opposite direction of the neck loop. Continue turning to make a spiral. Stop when the outside of the spiral reaches the arrow.
Step 4. Carefully bend the spiral down until the necklace resembles the picture. Step 5. To make the star charm for this necklace, make a small loop in one end of the 22g wire. Step 6. Put the wire through the star bead as shown - with the loop at the point of the star.
Step 7. Make a spiral of the remaining wire and nudge it right up into the space between the two star points. Step 8. Turn the top loop 90º so that it is facing sideways. Slip the charm onto the wire in the middle of the spiral and wind it around into position. Step 9. Slip the large loop around the Shaman’s neck. The necklace in this picture is the reverse of the one we just made - don’t let that confuse you.
The Star Shaman’s basic architecture is adaptable to a number of different ideas for art dolls, and we will be exploring them in future issues. We would love to see photos of art dolls you create in this format for the Shaman’s doll gallery which will also be featured in the magazine. Send good quality JPG files to nowwhatzine@aol.com.
