Dear Readers,

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing - if only we could put it in front of us!

One year has passed since the publication of the first issue of this magazine. Looking back over that year, we can see that Now What? was a surpise child - arriving just about a year before its time. There was no planning where it would fit, no room made ready. Just a wild child trying to decide what it wanted to be - changing and growing of its own accord and knocking everything around it into a cocked hat. From where we sit today, however, we have a lot better idea what this child will grow into, and how we will provide the room for that growth. As it has defined itself, so has it moved up in order of priority, because we are fascinated by its potential. Now What? is unlike any other publication out there, and will continue to evolve in its own direction.

Our reader response has been wonderfully supportive - especially appreciative of the “educational” aspects of this magazine. And so we have decided to expand that area. In addition to our Art School 101 and Craft School 101 Series, this issue we begin the Computer Art 101, which will focus on the basics of using your computer as an art tool. And Digital Diva articles in future issues will offer tutorials on advanced techniques - hopefully presented in simple enough steps to serve as a learning experience for beginners as well.

We have some unusual media and projects in this issue. At first glance, some of them may not seem to be the kind of thing you “do”, but, browse them anyway, because the actual techniques are “outside the box” and can be used on just about any project including books.

And, speaking of Book Artists: We are not ignoring the billion of you interested in handmade books, altered books, visual journals, etc. There is much coming for you and we know you are out there. Meanwhile, you should find the new rubber stamp alphabets *very* interesting. They are a dream-come-true for making and altering books.

Our Cre8it! website is going through a massive remodel behind the scenes. Many of you have written that it is your favorite website, and we want to make your visits easier and even more fun. There will be a new “look and feel” and better navigation and organization - and a special “Reading Room” for this magazine with all kinds of ways to cross-reference and find any info you want.

Are we busy enough yet??

Happy Summer to you all. Enjoy!

Jessica
