“Frida Kahlo”
Freya Diamond
I think this was my favorite series in the show. The artist did several books on different female artists. The “dresses” on these fold-out paper dolls are cut from prints of the paintings of the artist being honored. They are wearing their art - and what a lovely wardrobe.

“The Squirrel Book”
Kathleen Margolin
The detail below shows that the book in the box (which is about squirrels) sits on a collection of acorns. I love the combination of very different paper patterns that mesh so well with each other.

“Frontiers In Science”
Thelma Mathias
This box is filled with the shredded contents of a book by that title. Talk about “altered”!

Please Note:
Time and space did not allow for us to include every book and every artist in this article. There were 100+ works this year contributed by 35-40 Artists.
The Book Art Show at Gallery Zipp is a “must see” if you happen to find yourself in the Santa Fe area during its annual run (usually May through June). If you are a book artist who would like to be considered for next year’s show, you may email a jpg picture of your work to:
