How To Make Your Perfect Portable Palettes:
The size of your palettes is entirely up to you, as is their color content. The instructions we give here are for a size to fit our envelope template as shown. You can make them any size to fit any envelope or even to be tucked or bound into your journal. The size that we show is perfect for making gifts for your artist friends too.
Step One: Cut Sheer Heaven into 4" by 5" rectangles. You will get four of these from a letter size sheet and you can make as many or as few as you wish.

Step Two:
This step is optional but is a nice touch if you are making these palettes as gifts.
We used our alphabet stamps and a rainbow ink pad to make colorful and playful titles for each palette.

Step Three:
Fill each palette sheet with colors of your choice in squares, circles, swatches, or any design. Apply a generous amount of color.
This will work equally well with water soluble crayons or pencils, but the crayons lay more color on with each stroke.
Leave space between colors for mixing or diluting.

A Variety of Palettes:
You can take along a few of your colors, or all of them. This set of palettes contains all 40 of the colors in my set of Neocolor II by Caran d’Ache.
Palettes stack neatly on top of each other and the colors do not rub off onto the back of the next palette because the back of Sheer Heaven is slick. Even if you must put them away wet, any transferred color will easily wipe off later with a damp paper towel.

Specialty Palettes:
Create special use palettes for specific projects.
For example, creating a palette for a series of illustrations for a book or journal project will ensure harmony between the pictures.
This kind of approach is great for gift making - you may introduce a friend to combinations they haven’t tried or give a beginner a palette that will be sure to work.

| One of the best things about this is that artist grade water soluble crayons and pencils are archival, high-end art supplies, with intense pigment concentration and light fastness, so there is no worry about using these palettes for professional work. |
