| It seems as if every paper arts and rubber stamping magazine we have picked up over the past eight months or so, has had some huge change to announce. Two have changed editors, two have become scrapbooking magazines, and one had to apologize to its readership for trying to step a little outside of the box when they put an art doll on their cover. Magazines that were already outside of the box are diving back in - to follow the money I suppose (the dollars in the scrapbook industry are very, very big).
So, we thought we’d better make a big change too - to stay on trend, you know. From now on, we will be a scrapbooking magazine - because we don’t think there are enough of them yet.
JUST KIDDING!!!!
No, our big change is a change in format that hardly shows. When Now What? was first laid out, it was with the idea that it was and always would be an electronic publication. That is still true, but since so many of you are struggling to print it out, we thought we would try to make that just a little easier.
Sorry, there’s nothing we can do about the fact that browser software forces you to bring up each individual page to print - that’s the nature of the beast and we’re stuck with it for now.
But, what we can do is restructure the pages so they will land properly on a letter size sheet of paper without cutting pictures in half, etc. So, most pages will now print out on 2 letter size pages. A couple of our shorter webpages (like this one) will translate to 1 printed page, but none will be longer than 2.
We know you don’t want to waste your ink and paper printing the Page-Turning Arrows and BackTracks buttons either, so we have located them below the margin of the letter size page.
HERE’S HOW TO PRINT WITHOUT THE BUTTONS AT THE BOTTOM:
Display the page as always and hit your Print command. Tell your printer to print Page 1 through 2 (or, for a short page, 1 through 1). Because the buttons are located below the web page bottom, your printer wants to print them on a third page by themselves. So, you ask it not to do that by dictating just 1 through 2. I know it’s confusing, but try it on this page. Hit Print and choose Page 1 through 1. You should get just one letter size sheet and no buttons.
If you notice a little strange spacing in the middle of your pages on screen, it does not mean we are losing our design sense - it’s a byproduct of this new underlying architecture.
