| What can you do with a beautiful photograph? Plenty - and I'll show you how. Your beautiful photographs are a treasury of graphic design and art elements that you could tap into at will - if only you knew more about graphic design, right? And if only you knew more about your PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements program. This workshop will not only show you the basics as we go along, but will teach you the tricks that professional designers use to put together the wonderful graphics that fill our world. Even if you have never created a thing with your photos before, and even if you can't imagine how you would begin, you will come out of this course with enough knowledge and skills to turn your photographs into beautiful gifts and keepsakes for any occasion. This workshop will pay for itself with the first holiday season that comes along, and it will also be a gift to you, because there is nothing more joyous than having design skills that make you look like a pro. And the first time the feeling washes over you that there is actually no limit to the possibilities of the art you can create with your digital camera and your computer, you really feel like you can fly! You will learn how to alter your photographs in totally tasteful ways, and then combine them with beautiful typography to create a stunning presentation whether you are designing a book, some calendars, a framed slide show, or a set of notecards with coordinated envelopes. (Just a few of our ideas!) |

Your Instructor . . . I am a professional photographer and photography teacher, who was also Owner and Senior Art Director of a graphic design, advertising, and computer graphics firm in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than twenty years. I was a beta testor for the pre-cursor to the very first version of PhotoShop. That was a *real* adventure!! I still use PhotoShop and do web design work every day (for my own companies and products now), and I still think digital design is one of the most exciting things you can do with your creativity. It is real, honest to goodness "magic" and I am excited to share some of it with you! Click here to learn about my love affair with photography, art, and computer graphic design. |

How our online workshops are run. . .
We use a closed, invitation-only, Yahoo Group as our classroom. You purchase the workshop from our Shopping Cart, and the day before the beginning of class, watch for an email including a link to join the Yahoo Group. If you do not already belong to other Yahoo Groups, you will be asked to set up a user name and password. Each Tuesday and Saturday, a PDF booklet will be posted in the Links section of our Yahoo Group. This contains the lesson for the week, with examples, and your assignment, based on the information covered in the lesson. The booklets accumulate into a great textbook for future reference. You do the assignment in your own time. You may share your results in an Album of your own in the Photos section of the Group. It is always wonderful to see some of what others are doing. The instructor will answer questions and give guidance and advice where needed. |

| Requirements. . .
None. Just a desire to learn and the supplies below. Supplies . . . A Stash of Digital Photos You are the only one who has to think they are worth working with. There will be no critiquing from this side of the fence. If they're fine with you, they are fine with me. Image Editing Software. Adobe Reader software (free from Adobe.com) is required in order to open and print the lessons for this workshop. Lesson will also be zipped, so you need Stuff-it Expander (Mac) or WinZip (PC) installed (also free - Google them). Papers, etc. The choices will be up to you - depending on how you plan to do the projects. Suggestions will also be made, and sources provided, for some other materials that will help you create gifts or keepsakes with your designs. All of this is optional. You can just learn to design, and keep things in the computer if that's what you want to do. |
