Step 2.
We
used our Red Letter Hand Printed Alphabet (small) to stamp the names of our three canine staff members on the tags, and also traced over the names with the black Glaze pen. Eyeballs were added with a fine tip white paint marker, and pupils with the Glaze pen after the whites were dry.

We had these great bone beads which we attached with red Fun Wire (Michaels) and jump rings we made from Artistic Wire (stronger). Then, all three tags were attached to a black aluminum chain we got from www.eastwestdye.com.

This not-so-well-known tool is one we could not live without. It punches perfect holes in metal sheets leaving no rough edges, and it’s
so easy to use. One hole is really small and great for jewelry. We found it at a local wholesale jewelry supply, but you can get it from Dick Blick for around $12.50. (http://www.dickblick.com/zz330/41/products.asp?param=0&ig_id=2171)

We’ll have a lot more to say about this after the holidays, but the updated website for our Sunrise at Santa Fe - Creative Balance is up and ready. The same retreat will be offered on a choice of two weekends (April 14-17, and April 21-24), and each weekend is limited to only 30 attendees, so you might want to start thinking about it soon. Read all about it here.

Wear favorite photos on your ears!

Our Dog Tag idea quickly turned into lots of other jewelry ideas. These Garden Earrings are just one manifestation of the concept of combining photos with aluminum shapes. We thought of charm bracelets, mother’s treasure necklaces, etc. but this was the easiest way to demonstrate the look.

The pictures on the right show the front and back sides of one pair of earrings. We don’t necessarily think earrings have to match, so we included four different flowers on this pair. They swivel, so whichever side is visible is good - there is no “wrong” side.

Proceed by preparing the aluminum pieces just like you did for the dog tags - only we made these just 1" square.

Choose and print your photos as 3/4" squares this time, and print them on a sheet of White Magic (indestructible, opaque white vinyl), and mount one photo on each side of each aluminum tag with Crafter’s Pick Ultimate.

Attach tags to silver earwires with a jump ring and fishing swivel. This allows the earrings to rotate freely. You can find fishing swivels at Walmart or a fishing store. Get the smallest silver ones they have.

Cre8it has a kit for convenience sake:

1 5"x7" piece of aluminum
