Our Rustie Dusties made us think of the Rusted Rock image on our new Rocks Volume 1 Art Safe CD, and we wondered how the two might look together.
This is what the photograph looks like, and we thought it would make a great background just like it is - printed on canvas maybe. Or maybe transferred to muslin.
On our way to doing that, we came across a piece of tan matboard left from another project.

Step 1.
We printed the Rusted Rock image full size on a sheet of Sheer Heaven, knowing we would use the rest of the image to transfer to something else later.
We cut a piece just a little larger than our mat board scrap.

Step 2.
Using the Sheer Heaven/rubbing alcohol transfer method (see Whatever Issue 6), we laid the image over the matboard and burnished with the side of our hand.
We could tell it wasn’t even going to need to bone folder as back-up - it had already transferred.

Step 3.
Sure, enough, when the Sheer Heaven was removed, the transfer was beautiful, and ready for that rusted horse. |

Step 4.
We chose a bone colored cardstock this time and mounted the matboard piece just below the midpoint and flush to the left of the card - where it pretty much looked like a slab of rock. Again, we used the Crafter’s Pick Ultimate glue.
This kind of offsetting gives interest and a dynamic to the composition.
The rusted horse was positioned as if he was about to run right off of the matboard “rock”, and his head and front leg cast a nice shadow on the card.
This time, one of our large rusted Spiral Suns was just the right size to actually serve as our focal point. It spins us into the card and right up along the horse’s back.
