Artist’s Statement:
The photo is of my grandmother and an unknown boy. She was about 15 years old at the time. She was of German descent and proud to be an American.  

I think she was born in America. I’m not positive. I know she spoke German until age 5.

She was an only child, but she, herself, had 11 children.  

During the depression people came to her house because they knew she would feed them. She fed a countless number of people on her front lawn. She didn't have much money and still gave to those in need.

I changed the color of the photo to a red and created a blue background with stars. I was going for a patriotic theme to honor my grandmother. I added the clouds for interest.

Artist’s Statement:
Sorry.. there are no “stories” behind my collages.

The way I create my digital work is:
I just look through photos, images etc. and sometimes there comes an “oh wow...this is beautiful.. I have to do something with it” to my mind.

Once I have the basic image I just start to play around with colors, textures, layering, lettering and so on...

I have a few years of experience in digital art. I love playing with my graphic programs and the possibilities seem to be endless.
We hope you have found some inspiration in this gallery installment. The challenge is still open, and we will publish more gallery pages if we receive more beautiful examples of how to use vintage portraiture in art without dismemberment.
