| How It Works:
Each Gallery Swap has a theme and size or format parameters.
Artists who wish to participate create a theme piece and submit an electronic copy of the full piece and one or two details in .jpg format, accompanied by an Artist Statement. These files are emailed by the due date to:
galleryDSF@aol.com
The Show is hung until the next show goes up, at which time, it goes into the Gallery Archives (where it is still viewable for Gallery visitors). After two weeks, the real life artworks are swapped by the participating artists. Each piece is assigned a number in order of receipt. Participating artists names are thrown in a hat and drawn out one by one. The first name drawn owns piece #1 and so on. This way, no one has to deal with their piece being chosen last. The actual piece is sent by the creator to the recipient.
What is the purpose?
The purpose of Gallery Swaps is two-fold. The first purpose is sharing. These shows allow the artists to share their work with each other and to own pieces by other artists. The work is also shared with Gallery visitors for pleasure and inspiration. The second purpose is that it challenges the artist to create for the pure sake of creation. These pieces are not done for profit and are, therefore, not influenced by the marketplace. This art comes straight from the artists heart.
