The use of squares in this piece represents the sharpness of cold winter air comingling with the brittle translucence of the icy leaves left lying on the ground. A significant amount of negative space represents the quiet nature of winter as well as the blanket of snow and ice covering the earth. I used a cool palatte and a spare application of colored pencils in order to achieve a light and airy feeling on this abstracted image of “My Winter Garden.”
