My Winter Garden
11"x14", Mixed Media
This Winter Garden piece evolved from the scattered remains of a vision that didn't quite come together as planned.
I find that setting a few parameters when attempting to make more than a big mess is necessary, so my parameters were:
1) to use Sheer Heaven and
2) to work with the idea of a dozen roses set in a repetitive pattern - an idea that I've been bouncing around in my brain for almost a year.
I used a posterized image of a rose printed on Sheer Heaven and stitched, using a sewing machine, cut up pieces of this image into folds of different shades of green and blue handmade papers. I then assembled those paper folds into a shape that appealed to me using the organic shape of the stick to divide the space between the organized and the free form side of the piece.
